So what exactly is a link wheel?
A link wheel has ‘spokes’ which are web 2.0 elements that connect to the next spoke in the wheel, plus one link per
spoke connecting to the ‘hub’, which is your main website.
The web 2.0 spokes can be any number of services including: Blogger, Vox, Weebly, WordPress.com amongst many
others. Now each ‘spoke’ in turn can be marketed via ‘pinging’ services, social bookmarking and also via other back
linking strategies.
Then together the web 2.0 spokes can generate ‘link juice’ and hopefully give your website placement a boast,
especially for the keywords you use in your link anchor text.
How many spokes can you use?
It varies, but more is generally seen as better, however you could start of with five web 2.0 elements to get the ball
rolling, as this will take you considerable time to implement.
Tips for link wheel building.
You don’t have to stop at building one link wheel and you can build many or expand existing link wheels. When
building your link wheels it is best to use fresh content not duplicated anywhere else and to use between 350-400
words per article.
As well as maintaining a simply text file outlining the services used to build and promote your link wheel, you can also
quickly put together visual diagrams using the free software package Dia. This will help you manage and grow your
link wheels over time.
2. About Dia: Dia can be found in the repositories of most major linux distributions. Microsoft Windows users can find a
version here: http://dia-installer.de/
Note: It is extremely important that your ‘anchor text’ used for the links contain keywords that you are trying to rank
highly for in the search engines.
