The students studied the song "It Could Happen Again" about the 1914 Christmas truce during World War I. They watched cartoons and a film clip related to the truce theme of hope for peace during war. The students then read letters from English children evacuated during World War II and wrote their own letters imagining being evacuated. At the end of the project, the students asked to watch the animated film "Grave of the Fireflies".

2. One of the song we studied was « It could happen again »
It was linked to our history program and the story of the Art exam.
It's about the xmas truce when the soldiers stopped fighting for xmas at the beginning of WW1.
We also watched a cartoon about it called "war game" and watched the beginning of the film
"Joyeux Noel" on the same theme. Although it's about the war, it's a song of hope for peace.
Then we read extracts of letters written by English children who were evacuated during WWII
before the London Blitz. Then I asked my pupils to imagine they had to moved somewhere and to
write about their first impressions on their new place.
Here are some of their letters.
