∗ An American hip hop group.
∗ The band consists of the Rapper
will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo and the
singer Fergie.
∗ This band was formed in Los
Angeles, California in 1995

4. Genre Characteristics
∗ Hip Hop- Rap music, also called Hip hop music or Hip-
hop music is an American musical genre in which
rhythmic and rhyming speech is chanted to musical
accompaniment. It developed as part of hip hop
culture, a subculture defined by four key stylistic
elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/scratching, breaking/
dancing and graffiti writing.
∗ They specialise in all these genres : Electro hop, Dance,
R&B, Alternative Hip Hop as well.

5. There is a relationship between lyrics and
visuals(EITHER illustrative, amplifying and
contradicting.
∗ There is a relationship between the lyrics and visual as
the video shows that the band are getting ready to go
to a party to have a good time and the lyrics are “I
gotta feeling that tonight’s gonna be a goodnight,
that tonight's gonna be a good goodnight”. the lyrics
actually go with the beat of the music and match the
visuals.

6. There is a relationship between the music and
visuals(either illustrative, amplifying,
Contradicting)
∗ The relationship between the music and visuals are
basically talking about the I gotta feeling that
tonight’s going to be a goodnight is being
represented in the visuals by them all getting ready to
party and have a good time as they are full of energy
to party.

7. The demands of the record label will include the need for lots
of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs
which recur across their work( a visual style) motifs.
∗ In this video there are a lot of close up of the band
members face. It shows close ups of will.i.am and
fergie most of the time because they are the two
main artists of the band. There is a part of the video
where there is a solo part for fergie where the camera
focuses on her and it shows close ups and full shots of
her. The other members are shown in close ups as
well but not as much as fergie and will.i.am.

8. There is frequently reference to notion of
looking( screens within screens, telescope, etc.)
particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body
voyeuristic.
∗ There is a frequent reference to the
notion of looking in this music video
because it shows she is wearing less
clothes on her body to reveal her
sexuality and personality. Where in the
eyes of men she is an object.
∗ This scene of the music video shows
she is sitting on top of will.i.am so this
means she has the power and he is
sitting under her so it shows he is
defenceless and not in control. She is
showing that she has control over him.
They are both wearing sunglasses
which represent that they are both
important people at the party sitting
in the round chair. They are the life of
the party.

9. There is often intertextual reference (to film,
tv programme, other music videos , etc)
intertextual.
∗ This music video is a reference to another music video
from the Beatles called “I’ve gotta feelin”.
∗ Both these music videos have the same or similar
titles so when you are looking for the music video I
gotta feeling you will get the both the music videos
appearing up and you chose the one that says the
black eyed peas.
