  • 1. Chapter 6, Section 5: Proportions and Percents Reminder : a percentage is the number over 100 (as the denominator). Warm Up: Write each percentage as a fraction. 1) 24% 2) 75.5% 3) 132% 1) 24/100 2) 75.5/100 3) 132/100
  • 2. Finding Part of a Whole IS over OF IS and Number -> Numerator OF and Number -> Denominator Find 65% of 245 1) turn the percentage into a fraction 2) make a proportion 3) cross product 65 100 = 245 x (65)(245) = (x)(100) -> 15,925 = (x)(100) -> x = 159.25
  • 3. IS over OF IS and Number -> Numerator OF and Number -> Denominator 25% of 124 is? 25/100 25 100 = x 124 Now use cross product to determine what 25% of 124 is. (25)(124) = (x)(100) -> 3100 = (x)(100) -> 31 = x
  • 4. IS over OF IS and Number -> Numerator OF and Number -> Denominator Find the missing Part. 1) 43% of 230 is? 2) 12.5% of 80 is? 3) 132% of 45 is? 1) x = 98.9 2) x = 10 3) x = 59.4
  • 5. IS over OF IS and Number -> Numerator OF and Number -> Denominator Finding a Percent: Remember, percentage is the number, over 100. What percent (%) of 60 is 52 ? Of 60 is the denominator Is 52 is the numerator ? 100 = 52 60
  • 6. IS over OF IS and Number -> Numerator OF and Number -> Denominator 1) What Percentage of 250 is 138? 2) 14 is what percentage of 15? Have Ms. D-H Check!
  • 7. IS over OF IS and Number -> Numerator OF and Number -> Denominator Finding Whole Amounts: Remember, percentage is the number, over 100. 1) 207 is 46% of what number? 2) 19 is 75% of what number? 3) 310 is 99% of what number? 1) whole = 450 2) whole = 25.333 3) Whole = 313.1313
