Your Resume Is Crap - 3 mistakes job seekers make on their CV
1. Your Resume Is Crap
The 3 Biggest Mistakes Job Seekers make on their CV – and how to fix them
2. Mistake 1: It’s All About History
You’ve been told by every so called “expert”
that your resume is a summary of all your job
history. This is crap.
Think about it. If you won the finger painting
contest on your first day of school, does that
really tell an employer anything about if
you’re going to be a valuable employee
today?

3. Solution 1: Highlights
Forget all the history. Most of that has absolutely nothing to do with the position you are applying for.
Your resume is only about getting an interview. So think of your CV as your highlights reel. Show your
employer only the best. Edit out the boring bits.
Say you’ll give more details at interview so they’ll be curious, and you’ll stand out.
4. Mistake 2: It’s All About Typewriters
Most resumes come from a time when typewriters
and dinosaurs roamed the earth.
Typewriters and dinosaurs are dead.
Your resume is probably dead, too (or at the very
leasty boring)

5. Solution 2: Design
One colour and one graphic element can make a world
of difference and shows employers that you aren’t
limited to old school thinking. Use the new tools
available to you. Design makes you a more interesting
candidate to interview, so stand out!
6. Mistake 3: It’s All About You
Most resumes are written about you, by you,
from your point of view. That’s crap.
Sorry, but it’s not all about you.
An employer is not you. They want to know
what other employers think about you.

7. Solution 3: Quotes
Dig out the references and emails from past employers
or clients and extract a favourable quote. This “social
proof” will reassure prospective employers and instantly
make you stand out.
