1. By15240000<br />Tiara Barnes<br />I spent my early childhood years living in the uptown area of Washington, DC. I wouldn’t classify my living situations as poor class, but they weren’t always the best. I never had to struggle for anything because my parents worked hard so that I can have the finer things in life. I come from a very strongly family oriented background. Surprisingly, I learned to embrace Jamaican side of my family and growing up I felt like I identified with them better. My experience with them was never a dull moment and I enjoyed all the various foods that they eat. The trips I would take to Jamaica made me realize the poor living conditions people had to endure on a daily and in comparison to here they were worse. Because of them and constantly attending soccer meets it influence me to join the soccer team when I was a student at Charles Carroll Middle School. Although we weren’t the best team and lost a large amount of games we still managed to have a good time. Because of my academic achievements it allowed me to become a National Junior Honor Society member in which I held the position of Member Coordinator due to my popularity within the organization. Another extracurricular activity that led me to want to pursue a career in Journalism would be TV Production. Every morning the club members would come together at do a live broadcast where important announcement for the day were made, today’s lunch menu, and even the weather. I rotated positions some days I was an anchor, camera person, and etc. I even went as far as obtaining a job in the summer 0f 2009 in this field of study in which I would travel to several events in the Metropolitan area and conduct interviews. Interviews ranged from members of the Senior Olympics to influential DC leaders Kwame Brown, Venus Williams, and Mayor Adrain Fenty. I’ve always liked writing ever since elementary school where I had to complete book reports. And because of the high marks I would receive on them and other articles of writing further convinced me that writing is a calling of mine. Writing is a great form of expression and has the ability to paint a visual picture for the reader or even create a certain mood.<br />
