  • 1. M E M P R É E N M O U V E M E N T Partners Newsletter Issue n°13- march 2013EditorialBefore you begin reading this March issue, I’d like to ask you something: have you felt a change these past few days, induced by thewarm spring sun?...On the contrary. The warm temperatures are to be expected for spring, especially for our current outdoor activities, which are soenjoyable! And to further boost our enthusiasm, why don’t we try Wixxing together?I know most of us aren’t allowed to Wixx, unless we’re among the lucky ones who organize and animate activities. But that doesn’tmatter. As long as the youngsters get moving.Besides, there are other challenges in which we can all take part, such as the Défi Moi J’Croque, in which the goal is to eat 5 portionsof fruits and vegetables a day. How about you? Will you be eating fruits and vegetables and competing with the other schools? Willyou be this year’s winner? The sugar season is fast approaching; let’s take the time to enjoy the moment and the activities that are available to us during thisperiod. Summer is right around the corner and fall not far behind. So, let’s not wish for this season to end... Let’s enjoy it to thefull!!!Denis Delbois DID  YOU  KNOW  THAT...? In  each  issue  of  our  bulle0n,  we’re  going  to  present  a  capsule  en0tled  «Did  you  know  that...?».    These  capsules  will   help  you  influence  decision  makers  when  you  meet  with  your  Execu0ve  Board,  Administra0ve  Council  or  Municipal   Council. The  purpose  of  these  brief  capsules  is  to  provide  you  with  informa0on  and  «0ps  and  tricks»  that  relate  to  healthy   lifestyle  habits.    The  capsules  will  deal  with  physically  ac0ve  lifestyles  and  ea0ng  habits  as  well  as  the  type  of   environment  that  promotes  these.    The  capsules  are  mostly  produced  by  Québec  en  Forme,  but  they  could  also   come  from  other  organiza0ons,  such  as  Kino-‐Québec,  Health  Canada,  etc...     I  hope  you’ll  find  them  interes0ng! Did  you  know  that...? «There’s  a  convenience  store  near  (15  minutes  of  walking  distance)  almost  two  thirds  of  schools  and  a  fast-‐food   restaurant  near  one  third  of  schools  (Robitaille  et  coll.  2009).    In  urban  areas,  the  probability  of  finding  a  fast-‐food   restaurant  near  secondary  schools  is  30  Mmes  greater  in  disadvantaged  areas  (Kestens  et  Daniel,  2010).» MeM Partners Newsletter, March 2013 1
