Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

over Minus en dat het 500 000 actieve gebruikers hebben.
Flickr:
- Een website om foto’s te delen
- Een online community platform
- Het wordt gezien als een Web 2.0 applicatie.
Voordelen:
- Foto’s kunnen in privé blijven of bestemd zijn voor gebruikers die toestemming kregen van
de uploader.
- Het uploaden kan via pc, e-mail of gsm.

- Laatste stap is uw contacten toevoegen. Je kan dit via Facebook, Yahoo.

3. - Je kan ook een heleboel instellingen aanpassen als je bovenaan bij ‘you’ klikt, je kan hierbij
bv favorieten toevoegen, foto’s sorteren per trefwoorden, galerijen toevoegen,..
- Bij contacten kan je ook uw contacten beheren, je kunt de contactenlijst aanpassen,
geschenkjes van flickr geven, je kunt ook contacten toevoegen bij groepen.
- Bij ‘groups’ kun je groepen creëren of wijzigingen aanpassen.
Artikels :
- Artikel 1: ‘Over exposed, a list, fills Room with 24 Hours of Flickr Phots’. Het gaat over een
man die 24 uur op Flickr heeft gezten, hij printte telkens de foto’s uit. Hij vraagt zich af is dit
nu choquerend om te zien hoeveel foto’s er worden upgeload in 24 uur of zouden er nog
meer moeten delen, want dit is enkel via flickr.
- Artikel 2: artikel dat flickr foto sessies heeft geïnstalleerd, je kan het dus ook gebruiken op pc,
Iphone, Ipad.
- Artikel 3: ‘Flickr Changes Sharing Options, Cozies up to Tumblr’.
Tumblr en flickr werken nu samen, je kan dus vrienden via tumblr downloaden, en als je
foto’s upload via flickr komen die ook op je tumblr account terecht.

- Snel en gemakkelijk foto’s delen via Google.

- Ga naar www.picasa.google.com/features.html en meld je aan
- Picasa is eigenlijk om je afbeeldingen te bewerken.
- Je krijgt dan een schermpje waar je uw gegevens moet invullen.
- Als je bovenaan op ‘uploaden’ klikt, kun je uw bestanden uploaden.
- Je kunt dan ook de titel van je album bewerken, beschrijving toevoegen en instellingen
aanpassen.

4. - Dan druk je op ‘wijzigingen opslaan’.
- Links bovenaan kun je er een diavoorstelling van maken, je kunt ook je foto album delen.
- Bij ‘acties’ kan je een duidelijk overzicht van je album maken, verwijderen, titels aan
toevoegen. Je kunt ook foto’s afdrukken.
- Als je albums wilt delen, dan klik je bij ‘album delen’ en dan vul je het e-mail adres in van
diegene met wie je wilt delen bij ‘aan’.
- Je kunt ook foto’s zoeken via Picasa. Je doet dit door bovenaan naar ‘ontdekken’ te gaan. Je
kunt bijvoorbeeld een foto zoeken van Londen.
Artikels:
- Artikel 1: Hierbij gaat het over dat Picnik toegevoegd wordt. Dat je foto’s kan croppen, meer
licht en contrasten kunt toevoegen. Je kunt ook bijvoorbeeld stickers toevoegen.

Facebook:
- Eerst ga je naar de startpagina van Facebook.
- Dan kun je naar uw profiel gaan en dan ‘status bijwerken’.
- Daar kun je dus klikken op ‘createphoto album’ en dan kun je ook een fotoalbum toevoegen.
- Je klikt dan op ‘openen’ en de gewenste foto’s worden geüpload.
- Je kunt ook een beschrijving, titel, plaats toevoegen aan je foto’s.
- Onderaan kun je kiezen of je dit alleen aan je vrienden wilt tonen, of aan iedereen of voor
jezelf.
- Je moet wel je vrienden in je contactenlijst van Facebook hebben.
- Je vriend krijgt dan de melding dat jouw vriend een foto heeft geüpload.
- Als je onderaan naar je album gaat, onderaan de pagina kun je een beschrijving toevoegen.
Je vrienden kunnen commentaar geven en je album delen met anderen en op de knop ‘vind
ik leuk’ klikken.
- Je kunt ook de naam van het album veranderen door op ‘privacy-instellingen aanpassen’ te
klikken.
- Als je klikt op ‘opslaan’, staat het album op je prikbord.

Facebook geld toesturen naar elkaar. Het is nu enkel gratis in de Verenigde Staten.
