Learning Outcome: By the end of the lesson you will understand what Mise en Scene means and apply the concept to a film extract. Activity Use the dictionaries to help you write a definition of Mise en Scene in your sketchbook. What 5 elements of film are included in the term?

  • 4. Watch the extract from Kill Bill and make notes about each one of the 5 Mise en Scene elements. (click the image) Settings and Props Costume, Hair and Make Up Facial Expression and Body Language Lighting and Colour Positioning
  • 5. Activity Experiment with the different dramatic effects that can be created by altering the direction and source of light. Add tone to the line drawings, trying a different light source each time. Light from the window Light from the lamp
