• The purpose of genre:
• Is to put characters into conflict and create tension and moral panic.
• Another purpose would be to demonstrate the different issues of people’s everyday lives in society. The dramatic
themes are taken from intense, real life issues for example their could be heroes or heroines that are facing a
conflict from the outside or a conflict within themselves
3. The subgenres of Drama
• Melodrama
Is to capture the audience emoticons, it mixes music and romance to appeal to the target audience.
• Docudrama
Is to learn, find historical information for the use of identity. It could also be used to highlight the drama that goes
on in todays society, in order to make people more aware of the society we live in.
• Historical Drama
Examines a specific time in history or group of people. Many Historical films aim to portray true events and
people. However, most Historical films are only loosely based on these events and people. They tend to focus
more on the romans, kings and queens.
• Romance
The purpose is to give an overwhelming emotional side or happy ending to the movie. The general conventions
would be a boy meets a girl they end up falling in love or end up in a relationship. Issues occur with the boy and
girl in the relationship.

Some of the conventions of drama:
There are usually moral dilemmas, social exclusion,
Prejudices, poverty, structured climaxes, division in
society. It reflects real life situations with realistic
character settings.
The purpose of melodrama Is to capture the audiences emotions and
usually has a happy ending. It usually
uses a mixture between
romantic/musical elements.
The Purpose of Docudrama Is to learn, find historical information for
the use of identity.
Historical drama Films that focus on dramatic events in
history for example ‘’Good night Mr Tom’’
focused on the world war.
Romance The purpose is to give an overwhelming
emotional side or happy ending to the
movie, and evoke sympathy.
