We are a global high-tech company involved in aerospace, defense and security. We design products, services and integrated solutions for governments, armed forces, and civilians. We are developing intelligent software to summarize vast quantities of sensor data like video and audio into concise English summaries. This reduces the data overload for operators. The system has successfully demonstrated summarizing outputs from a small-scale demo involving gunshots. Future work involves developing a full-scale urban surveillance system and combining sensor data with open source intelligence to provide more context on detected events.

3. Linguistic summarisation of sensor
data to reduce data deluge
Surveillance systems are becoming increasingly complex and provide vast
quantities of data that currently require human operators to interpret.
We’re using intelligent software in the
sensors to summarise the content in the
sensor data (initially video and audio but
could be extended to other sensors). This
output is transmitted as metadata which is
combined across several streams to form a
concise English language event summary
that is presented to the operator.
4. Success to dateDuring phase 1 we:
• built a small scale video and audio
sensor demo system – using scenario
of gunshots in urban environment
• successfully demonstrated an offline
system – highlighting the summarised
outputs automatically derived from the
sensor data
This includes:
• audio recognition with metadata
summary output
• message interchange protocols to
combine the multi-sensor data
• linguistic summarisation module
5. What next?
• develop a full scale urban surveillance system in major UK city centre
