Mainstream media caught red-handed in deleting unfavourable comments on MP Vikram
March 5th, 2012 | Author: Editorial
A reader has sent this to TR Emeritus (TRE) requesting that the information be shared so that TRE readers can be the judge to see if our mainstream media has over-reacted in deleting netizen
comments on their site.
This occurred after ST published an article talking about PAP MP Vikram Nair’s unrelenting attacks on WP MP Chen Show Mao in Parliament on Wed (29 Feb). Vikram accused Mr Chen of scoring
political points by repeatedly asking the Government to do more for vulnerable groups without acknowledging what had already been done. He even attacked Mr Chen’s proposals as being akin to a
Nigerian money scam:

.
Netizens were outraged at Vikram’s behaviour in Parliament and not surprisingly, many have posted comments following the above ST article condemning him.
However, what’s interesting is that ST has been caught red-handed (thanks to the reader who sent us this info) in censoring such negative comments against Vikram, even though the comments were
written quite sensibly. TRE readers can be the judge:

About 13 minutes later after alonzodapriest posted, his comments were deleted:
alonzodapriest
“I think many of us here have been working year in, year out, helping the vulnerable groups, and it is pretty hurtful coming from Mr Chen because he might have held this belief for a
long time, but he came back only quite recently to help in this.”
Such ad hominem arguments from nair is truly disappointing. Instead of discrediting chen by stating his recent participation in parliament, nair should have highlighted how pap has
helped vulnerable groups in a manner that is so substantial that chen would be unreasonable to put forth his point on multiplying efforts to help vulnerable groups.
Such a let down from someone who came from mckinsey. And as a further addition to my point, where was nair to ask where the SGD1.1 billion was coming from when it was to be
spent purchasing more trains for private operators to make profits off?
Let me give you a clue to where money to help vulnerable groups will come from. It’s the same source for where the train buying money is coming from. Do you really have to ask
rhetorical questions in parliament?

Then the comment from Jmm Limm was also deleted:
Jmm Limm
Vikram is narrowminded to think there MUST be only 2 ways 1) Higher tax 2) Budget deficits… even DPM Teo suggests otherwise (need creative ways to find more money)… what
saddens me is to have a MP who bullies with sarcasms and insults – likening MP Chen’s proposal to render help to Singaporeans to Nigerian scams while forgetting that PAP ministers
are MPs alike have for many years propose similar help packages etc. to Singaporeans. It is all right to ask where the money should come from… it is not all right to deliver the
contents like a rogue.

The reader who sent us this info said, “It seems that ST is unable to accept the fact that people have negative comments about the ruling party. I was making comments on their articles and all of a
sudden, I was banned and had all my comments deleted. They may argue that they found it offensive or something. So I decided to try to catch them in the act.”
“Attached is 3 captures at 3 different times. You can clearly see that the new comments got deleted. Whether or not they are offensive, I’ll let the readers judge. It seems that they only want to help
and see good things??”

Can you please send the article to the following Yale university professors who continue to live in denial believing that SIN respect academic freedom ? If SIN can even do this publicly , how
about those OB marker and self-censorship in institution ?
“It is understandable that for a pioneering initiative like the Yale-NUS College, there may be a diversity of views on different issues,” said Lily Kong, vice president of university and global
relations for the National University of Singapore, in an e-mailed statement. “We believe that this discussion should lead to an even higher level of mutual understanding and respect, ultimately
making the college even more robust.”

ST has long ago lost all credibility to stay neutral on political issues.
it has and will always be pap’s mouthpiece so long as the helmsman is appointed by papigs.
it’s good we are all aware of this and begin to open our minds with information and argument from social media platforms.
ST is no more than a propaganda tool for papigs to brainwash the population. they were very successful previously. but no more.

All Singaporeans know long long ago that all these MSM are the PAP mouthpiece. It is an open secret. But it is still fun to catch them with their pants down. Maybe Yacob should suggest a
code of conduct for the MSM based on freedom of ideas, speech and professional journalism. Bravo TRE. Bodoh MSM.

present from both sides, you can have a healthy discussion and discourse.
However, that’s not to say that we don’t censor. Those racist, seditious and defamatory comments that break the law will be dealt with accordingly. Would also like to appeal to our readers
here to tone down on personal insults and name callings. Even if you don’t like the characters written in an article, there is no need to insult. If you don’t like a public figure, just say why
you don’t like him or her. No need to call them names. Thank you.

Thank goodness we have internet where we can air it out in sites like TRE. Otherwise ST gets away with it. They have been getting away with such dirty tactics all these years, instead of doing
what is right & good to improve the Govt & Singapore.

This is so common in the old DB!!!
If you tried to search for some comments in an ‘old’ thread in the old DB, you would find that those that embarrassed the govt or a certain Minister would more likely than not to have been
deleted.
I have often searched for my own past critical comments on an old thread only to find them deleted.

They also always publish foreigners letters which are very dubious, the most being one praising SIA 2 days after their website security boo-boo. This letter is also caught red handed to be false
because a check with the flight info website reveals that there was no A380 flight (SQ322) arriving half an hour early on the day the writer mentioned, and not any other day in the whole of
that week & before.
After my post showing the flight info published live from the flight info website, I got a comment ticking me off for being negative and pessimistic. What kind of educated person is this telling
people off for exposing anomalies I wonder but sadly, it is this kind of people that Sg Govt & GLCs love and promote. This is why the standard of everything is so very poor in Sg. They don’t
want to do things properly and cover the shoddy work with lies, and then use more lies to cover lies. This seems fit with PAP. We are doomed.

This is an arrogant and narrow-minded prick who cannot stand up to Chen Show Mao. He should grow up or in the words of Thaman Shamugaratnam “catch up”.
The MSM should ashamed of trying to crawl up to this prick. For this and many more reasons they are so low on the Press Freedom Index. ST is another rogue newspaper not unlike the News
of The World. Only this time the Government is in league with them,
Journalism in Singapore is dead and buried by the Newspaper and Printing Presses Act of 1974 which states: ‘No person shall print or publish or assist in the printing or publishing of any
newspaper in Singapore unless the chief editor or the proprietor of the newspaper has previously obtained a permit granted by the Minister authorising the publication thereof, which permit the
Minister may in his discretion grant, refuse or revoke, or grant subject to conditions to be endorsed thereon.’

Pot calling kettle black.
Pot & kettle is the wrong analogy. You are comparing apple & orange.
First thank you for admitting our MSM is pro PAP when they should be pro Singaporeans. Their work should be without favour nor fear of ANY party. Incumbent or otherwise. Sadly it isn’t so
and you’ve proved it.
What makes their credibility worse is these MSM & their masters pretend and try to spin, cover and lie that this isn’t so. LOL…
Even if we do not like it but MSM will gain a lot more respect if they can just be open about whose interests they really served. Be honest about it.
We’ve seen enough of pro PAPies here polishing their master’s balls to know that TRE DO publish them. What makes TRE different from MSM is when pro PAP comments are posted, we can
discourse idealogically about it like me to you now. Can’t say the same for MSM especially when they see superior comments going against them.
I can’t speak on behalf of everyone but should one day TRE ever changed into the likes of the vile and pretentious MSM, I will be the first to desert and boycott it.

Vikram is going to be made a ministers in the GE, he is working very hard to defend and engage the public, scoring a lot of political mileage.
WHERES THE MONEY?
1. $3 bilion of surplus, nothing for citizens. $1B goes to buses, $2B go where? Go to exhorbitant salaries and bonuses of super scale civil servants and ministers?
2. GST is for the poor? Remember what LHL said.
3. Casino revenue will help the poor and needy.
Vikram – dont just talk cock, you dont have logical senses. 2 and 3 were promised but little delivered. 1 is self serving and paying for scum like you.

You guys should have boycott ST long ago. I find it strange that people post comments on ST website. What did you expect? That they will be fair like TRE? Or even Yahoo News? Stop
subscribing to their papers, reading it dirties your your brain, and hands with black ink also. As long as we don’t support them sooner or later they will bankrupt and TRE will take over!

Hey TR, Yahoo moderator also deleted my comments on the post “Can $1,000-a-month salary really buy you a HDB flat?”.
You can’t print screen to catch them in action because they vet through each post before they allow it to appear. They allow mostly nonsensical comments to get through but not the rational
ones like those deleted by ST.
I think it is a strategy to discredit the online community and use this as an excuse for subsequent implementation of web censorship. I hope someone can keep track and see whether what I
wrote is true.
It is great to expose them at an early stage. I hope more will make the effort to do it. Maybe TR should have a section specifically for people to post such exposes and push for greater press
freedom.

Dear @six sixty six: March 5, 2012 at 1:21 am (Quote) MSM you said is quasi govt own. I’ll add that it is owned WITH SINGAPOREANS’ MONEY! It is the majority daft 60% who
read/listen to MSM that makes it for them. And why this is so in chrono order as follows:
1. “If we say that we believe in democracy, if we say that the fabric of a democratic society is one which allows for the free play of idea…then, in the name of all the gods, give that free play a
chance to work within the constitutional framework.” – Opposition leader Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore Legislative Assembly, Oct 4, 1956
2. “Repression can only go up to a point. When it becomes too acute, the instruments of repression, namely the army and the police, have been proved time and time again in history to have
turned their guns on their masters.” – Opposition leader Lee Kuan Yew, Straits Times, May 5, 1959 ” -unquote.
3. “Mine is a very matter-of-fact approach to the problem. If you can select a population and they’re educated and they’re properly brought up, then you don’t have to use too much of the
stick because they would already have been trained. It’s like with dogs. You train it in a proper way from small. It will know that it’s got to leave, go outside to pee and to defecate. No, we are
not that kind of society. We had to train adult dogs who even today deliberately urinate in the lifts.” – Lee Kuan Yew, 1997
LKY not a regime like China’s Poliburo Congress now in meeting just for show. 3000+ hor!

Just a few days into a new parliament 2012 we are seeing PAP MP and minister activating their panic button. Don’t they even care what their 60% supporters think of them anymore?? one
after another are displaying cartoon character. From Yaakob,VN,Baey etc..if JBJ is in parliament right now these jokers would have been discredited and exposed there and then.
Who in their right mind doesn’t know that ST and other MSM are instrument of deception of PAP?? even the 60% know that. The politicians are providing ridiculous amusement we don’t need
right now. The economy better not suffer. Serve the people not the party…no politician can go wrong on that path.

20 minutes later, it was deleted.
The irony is that the comment text I made was just this:
“Guys, do you smell censorship of our only free medium, the Internet, here? ”
Sorry I forgot to take screenshots. But Why not you yourself try to post something like “Do not censor the internet”. See if it gets deleted.
