Some weeks the students will be allowed to bring an item in and other weeks they will have a special topic to talk about. While FCAT Writes is taken in fourth grade, our school believes it is all of our responsibility to develop a strong foundation in writing. Learning to focus is one of the critical thinking skills that help prepare your child for the expository writing required for FCAT Writes. Please help you child focus and practice their “Show and Explain” homework for each given topic. Your child may bring in something to “show” as long as it fits in their back pack and doesn’t need to be fed! Remember, we do not allow weapons of any kind at school. This includes toy guns, swords…
Follow this basic format for each topic:
(opening)I like (enjoy, need…) __________for three reasons.First, ___________________________________.(body)Next, __________________________________.Last, ___________________________________.(ending)In conclusion, that is (why, who…) __________.
Examples:
Favorite toy – truckI like my truck for three reasons.
