IT’S TIME TO CHOOSE
JOSHUA 24:14-15 –
“Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away
the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt,
and serve the LORD. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you,
then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the
gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the
Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my
household, we will serve the LORD.”

IT’S TIME TO CHOOSE
MATTHEW 6:19-24 –
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where
thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and
rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is,
there your heart will be also.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But
if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is
darkness, how great is that darkness!
“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be
devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

Do not store up treasure on earth [Matthew 6:19]
• Luke 12:13-21 – The parable of the rich fool
• 1 Timothy 6:17-19 – Command those who are rich in this present world not to be
arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God,
who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be
rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up
treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold
of the life that is truly life.
• Matthew 19:16-22 – The story of the rich young ruler

• Luke 16:1-9 – Parable of the shrewd manager (i.e., relationships)
• John 15:16 – You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and
bear fruit—fruit that will last.
• 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20 – For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we
will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you? Indeed, you
are our glory and joy.
• 1 Peter 1:3-5 – An eternal inheritance that can never spoil, perish,
or fade!

Where your treasure is, there your heart will be
[Matthew 6:21-23]
• 1 John 2:15-17 – Do not love the world or anything in the world. If
anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything
in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the
boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from
the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the
will of God lives forever.

Where your treasure is, there your heart will be
[Matthew 6:21-23]
• Colossians 3:1-4 – Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set
your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of
God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died,
and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your
life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

No man can serve two masters [Matthew 6:24]
• Luke 16:10-15 – “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with
much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you
have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?
And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you
property of your own?
• “No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will
be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”
• The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. He said to
them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your
hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God’s sight.
