2. MY CHOSEN PICTURE
I have chosen this photo
as I feel it is very
representative for the
indie genre and will
reach out to my target
audience due to the
clothes she is wearing.
3. REMOVING THE
BACKGROUND
In order to remove
the background I
have to select my
model using the
quick selection tool –
Then selecting
“Delete” in order to
remove it.
4. CREATINGMYNEWBACKGROUND
As my picture is the wrong
resolution for a front cover, I
have to make it an A4 size.
Instead, I created an A4 size
document and edited the
background before importing my
picture.
I realised that a plain white
background would be too boring,
therefore I played around with
different object I could use to fill
some space and concluded on
the maroon rectangle, placed
diagonally across the page. I
chose maroon as I feel it
compliments the white
background very well and isn’t
5. INSERTINGMYTITLE
I decided on the
font “Roadway” as
I feel it is very
unique due to the
vary in character
size, yet it is a
basic “Sans Serif”
font, making it
easy to read.
I also included the
Month, issue
number and price
beneath the “K”
6. EDITINGMYMODEL
I feel my original photo was
too bright for the style of my
magazine, so in order to
make it more suitable I
edited some simple factors.
1. I decreased the brightness slightly, and increased the contrast a very small
amount.
2. I ten duplicated the cut out image of her, and made the top layer black and
white. I then decreased the opacity of the top layer so it created a mellow colour
tone and decreasing the brightness effectively.
8. EDITINGMYMODEL
• After finishing the final touches, I
downloaded a “Tattoo Brush” which allows
you to print a tattoo on a selected area. I
did this as tattoo’s are very popular in the
indie scene, therefore It would allow my
model to reach out to my target audience
more.
9. IMPORTINGMYMODEL
The next step I
took was
inserting my
picture onto my
template for my
cover which fitted
perfectly with
very few
adjustments
required.
10. FINALADJUSTMENTS
I then decided that a
good effect to add an
extra flare to my cover
was to make it look as
if my model was a cut
out.
To achieve this, I added
an “Outer Glow” effect
which I made white and
solid. I ensured it was
the right size to look
realistic and not to
dramatic and over the
top.
11. FINALADJUSTMENTS
I decided i would
need a banner
located on my cover
so I can place text
and headlines inside,
so that not all my text
would be scattered
around the edges of
my cover.
I created a banner
and the bottom,
which is the same
colour as the
rectangle in the
background and is
connected in the
corner.
12. FINISHEDTEMPLATE
• Now that I have finished my template for
my cover, I can begin Inserting the
different pieces of text such as the
heading and pull-out quotes.
