Importance of Creating a Marketing
Plan
If you don’t know where
you are going, then you are
never going to get there.
For those who are starting
an online business,
creating a marketing plan
is the key element in
whether your business
succeeds or fails.
All the effort and expense you put into
creating a website and offering excellent
products or services simply pale in
importance to fashioning an effective
marketing plan that will reach customers.
Basically, you won’t sell a thing if you don’t
tell anyone about your business.
Creating a Marketing Plan
There are several important
steps towards creating an
effective marketing strategy.
You will need to take them
all into account before you
begin the process of
advertising to the world what
your business offers.
Develop your Business Brand: Basically, you
have to create an effective business name and
image that is marketable. So, you’ll want to name
your business, trademark your company and
establish a logo and business plan before you
start advertising your products or services.
Choose your Niche: This
means that the products or
services you offer needs to
appeal to a particular group of
people. For example, if you
want to sell fishing rods, then
clearly you want to target
people who love to fish.
Remember, the more narrow
the niche, the better you can
dominate the competition. But
if it is too narrow, then you
won’t generate enough of an
audience.
Copy what Works: This means that you study
the competition for your business to see
which ones have enjoyed success. By
identifying what types of strategies worked for
them, you can copy the same basic strategies
and have them work for you. Plus, you can
avoid some of the mistakes that they have
made as well.
Expand your Marketing
Efforts: Basically, while you
can start with a single strategy
to get your feet wet, you really
need to launch several
strategies along different lines
to maximize your reach.
You need to create social media accounts,
writing SEO content, starting email lists,
buying ads or banners, creating videos and
more in order to maximize your marketing
efforts.
Track your Marketing Efforts: There are
different ways you can keep track of the
effectiveness of each of your marketing
efforts. But the important part is knowing
what is working and adding to it so you can
expand that front while minimizing the
losses on others.
Launch New Marketing Campaigns: You
should set a schedule of starting new
marketing efforts so you can be consistent.
This is especially important for repeat
customer business as this is where you will
generate the most amount of money.
Don’t be Afraid of Failure: There
will be marketing campaigns
that will crash and burn, no
doubt about it. When this
happens, take whatever lesson
there is to be learned and start
up a new campaign. Remember
that the only real failure is
quitting your marketing efforts
altogether. So don’t be
discouraged because what you
thought would work did not.
