  4. 4.  Ralene Gideon – CAS Coordinator  CAS enables students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development through experiential learning. At the same time, it provides an important counterbalance to the academic pressures of the rest of the Diploma Program.
  5. 5. Creativity Arts and other experiences that involve creative thinking
  6. 6. Action Physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle
  7. 7. Service Voluntary and unpaid exchange that has a learning benefit for the student. The rights, dignity and autonomy of all those involved are respected.
  8. 8. A student’s CAS experience should be both challenging and enjoyable and a personal journey of self-discovery. Each individual student has a different starting point, and therefore different goals and needs, but for many their CAS activities include experiences that are profound and life changing.
  9. 9. JUNIOR DEADLINES SENIOR DEADLINES End of February: Kickoff party-Meeting in the library to begin the EE process. End of May: Sources, notes and preliminary outline due by end of school. This will be checked through Noodletools. Friday, Oct 18, 2013: First draft of paper (minimum 2000 words) due to Turnitin.com by 4:00 p.m. . Friday, Nov 15, 2013: Supervisor's form due Paper from formal mentor conference and discussion of paper due to Mrs. Yonker. Your paper must be substantially completed in order to have a successful conference. Monday, Dec 16, 2013: Final draft due Final draft of paper (3600-4000 words) due to Turnitin.com Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 to Friday, Jan. 24, 2014: Deadline to schedule final conference Final conference with supervisor-- supervisor must discuss paper with student and complete yellow folder for final copy. Some students double up and take Pre-Cal Pre-IB and AP Stats Junior year in order to take AP Calculus Senior Year 2. Students who do not take Algebra 1 until 9th grade year must double up and take Pre-Calculus Pre-IB and AP Stats their senior year.
  12. 12.  Only students who complete Algebra 1 and Geometry Pre-AP/IB in middle school are eligible to take the IB HL Math exam.  Bilingual students may take an HL Foreign Language Exam.  Appropriate substitutions will be made for other HL/SL Exams.

In order to earn an IB Diploma, the student must fulfill the following requirements:  Student must complete all assessment components for each of the six IB Subjects ◦ Students must take at least 3 Higher Level (HL) IB Exams and 3 Standard Level (SL) IB Exams. ◦ IB Exams are scored on a scale of 1-7 and a 4 is considered the passing score. ◦ Students must accumulate a total of at least 24 points on the IB exam scores and 12 of the 24 points must come from the HL exam scores.  Complete the additional IB Diploma Requirements ◦ 150 Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) Hours ◦ Extended Essay ◦ Theory of Knowledge Class

  16. 16.  Rates for 2013-2014 School Year ◦ $92 per exam ◦ $75 Registration Fee  The registration fee is required for first time test takers and for Senior Certificate students.  Senior IB Diploma candidates that took exams junior year, do not have to pay the registration fee again. ◦ All registration and exam fee payments will be made through Total Registration on-line November 1 through November 12. ◦ Go to www.TotalRegistration.net/IB/444095 to register and pay for IB exams. Scholarships are available. I have the IB Exam Scholarship Application available tonight if you need one.
  17. 17. 1. I will sit down with each IB student individually at the end of October to discuss IB exam registration and fill out the IB Exam Registration Form. Juniors can take up to 2 IB exams if seat time requirement is fulfilled. 2. Your student will take the form home for you to sign and will need to return the white form to me by October 31. 3. You need to keep the yellow form to complete the registration process on the Total Registration website.
  18. 18.  Encourage your student to work through the difficulty of IB courses by  Attending tutoring with teachers.  Asking for help.  Creating study groups for difficult subjects.  Not procrastinating!
