Dear Ma,
Progress Report on the Free Eye Examination/ Treatment and Presentation of Gift
Items at City of Refuge Orphanage Durumi.on the 29th of April 2012.
Federal Capital Territory and its environs are fast developing and the need for
sustained National development through Primary Healthcare is paramount.
Consequently, I, Dr. Adigwe Ifeoma Mary-Anne, a corp member at the Medical
Services Department with NYSC call-up number NYSC/BEN/2011/119968 and
FCT number FC/11B/6264 has keyed into this National vision. I have directed
my energies to sustain primary eye care and approval have been sort and
granted to conduct a free Eye Examination and Treatment and there after
present gift items at the City of Refuge Orphanage Durumi.

The Objective
The main objective of the project is to bring visual testing and treatment to the
children at the Orphanage, and also satisfy their personal needs by presenting
them with Provisions and Toiletries.
Consent and Approval
The consent of the State Coordinator NYSC Abuja and the Director Medical
Services Department, CBN Abuja, was sort to carry out the project. Approval for
execution was subsequently granted. In addition, the General Overseer of the
orphanage was consulted on the proposed project and the consultations turned
out very successful.
Project Plan
To successfully carry out the project, revenue was generated from individuals
and CBN staff provided the bulk of the fund. The project invested in treatment
supplies; drugs, eye drops, testing equipments with provisions and toiletries. A
medical personnel was also paid to assist.
Sensitisation
The staff of the orphanage were informed to get the children ready for the
exercise. The sensitization media impacted on a positive turn-out for the
exercise.
Commencement/Skill pool
The project started at about 3:00pm with two Doctors. The turn up was highly
impressive as the children were eager to be tested. The medical personnels
received a total number of 27 Children including babies. The team worked for
2:00 hours until about 5:00pm when the staff and the children came out for a
brief health discussion and presentation of gifts. The exercise rounded up at
about 6:00pm.
Detailed of Children Examined and Treated
 A total of 27 children were seen including babies
 5 were given anti-biotic eye drops
 3 were given anti allergic eye drops
 19 had no abnormality

Media Coverage
The activities of the project was could not be covered by the media as the
general overseer expressed her reservation as stigmatisation of the kids when
they go to school.
Program Closure
The project came to an end at about 6:00pm. The Matron commended the team
for their unequivocal effort during the exercise and expressed her appreciation.
Brief on the health discussions and presentation of gifts
After the free Eye Examination/Treatment, we had a health discussion with the
Children they were encouraged to ask questions on any area of health. They
asked a few questions and answers were given. They were highly impressed
and a lot of them opted to become doctors when they are older.
Issues & Challenges
I did not have obvious challenges, though I would have loved to buy more gift
items but for insufficient funds.
Prayer
In Conclusion, having successfully executed the one-off eye examinations,
treatment and presentation of gifts, I am pleased to inform you that the children,
staff and management of City of Refuge Orphanage are pleased with the visit and
look forward to another in the near future.
