2. The IES Josep Miquel Guardia’s school
was inaugurated in 1989-90.
It’s a collage where you can study a lot of
different things like: baccalaureate, secondary, and
personal training.
At the beginning there weren’t all the courses, but
every year, they add new things.
3. Everyone can study here, disabled people, immigrants,
everyone who’s older than 12
There are a lot of people from different places because
Alaior’s town has grown up.
This institute prepares everybody for the future: They
teach us knowledge, values and attitude to be good
persons with a big future.
4. If you entered for the principal door, you’ll find the
secretary. There, there are some people who serve you if
you need it.
5. In the first floor, there are the teachers’ rooms to.
They are located in a closed corridor and you just
can go there if you need something to ask them.
In the first floor there are also the hall
and some classes where the secondary
students learn.
6. You can go up to the second floor with the elevators or by the
steps. There, there are more rooms where the secondary and
personal training learns everything.
7. In every
floor there are
the toilets.
In the third floor there are more
rooms which in baccalaureate
students study. They also have
some subjects in the first or second
floor, so they have to move all time.
8. Out of the school,
there is the snack
bar where teachers
and students can
take their time to
relax.
There are also a lot
of banks where
people can sit to talk
or get relax.
9. There is a basketball and
a football court and a gym
that we use when we
practice sports in Physical
Education.
11. In our opinion, we think that our high school is
good because there are good teachers and good
students too. Also because is a small centre and
everyone know everybody, so there's a good
relationship between all the students.
This high school is
a little bit old, and in
Winter is so cold.
13. Menorca is one of the most beautiful islands in the world. It forms
part of the Baleares Islands. Menorca has got eight towns which are
Ciutadella, Ferreries, Es Migjorn, Mercadal, Alaior, Sant Lluis, Es
Castell and Maó.
Menorca only has got about 70.000 habitants and that’s why
there’s a place with a lot of calm.
14. There are a lot of nice beaches. Some of the most
mportant of them are: Son Bou, S'Arenal de’n Castell. On
summer, there are a lot of tourists in these beaches and they
come to spend their holidays in the island.
15. Son Bou
It's the longest beach in Menorca, the lenght is about
almost 2'5 km. It's located in the south of the island.

It's another beach
situated in the north of
Menorca, in summer
it's full of people.
17. Macarella
It's a wild beach, and
that's why there is always
a lot of calm.
19. El Toro
The highest mountain of Menorca is called “El Toro”
and its height is about 365 meters.
Menorca is not an
island with a lot of
mountains, so it is a
flat island.
20. The Camí de Cavalls
In Menorca there are some rural routes, and one of
them is the Camí de Cavalls.
This path was
constructed in 1330
and it was used to
protect the island.
Thanks to it the
tourist and people of
Menorca can enjoy it
to do hiking.
It goes all around
of the island.
21. Lenguage
The one official language is Catalan, but
people speak the variety of Catalan called
“Menorquí”.

22. The Food
There is a lot of typical food of
the island since long time ago.
For example, a typical meal is
“Pastissets”, “sobrassada”, “formatge”
and “Oliaigua”.
23. The weather is very good and that’s why there are a lot of tourist who
want to spend their holiday in Menorca.
It has a Mediterrian weather with hot summers and winters with wind
and also rain, but we can't compare it with U.K.
24. THE SUMMER
IN MENORCA
We are going to talk about some summer parties that
we celebrate in Menorca.
25. Menorca is an island which in the summer
changes completely, because a lot of people
come here to have a great summer in our
beaches. In addition, we also celebrate typical
summer parties, we call them “fiestas”, in
each town of our island.
Therefore, we have chosen
the “fiestas” which
represent better the
variety of the students of
our high school.
The important element of those parties are the horses and their
riders.
26. Sant Joan is the first party
that we celebrate. It’s the
23th and 24th of June in
Ciutadella and that’s a party
that represent Menorca.
And in the second weekend of August in
Alaior we celebrate Sant Llorenç.
28. The Sant Joan Fiestas are a local celebration
which is very famous in our town, because there is
a lot of people of our country that comes to enjoy
this party. It’s celebrated in Ciutadella de Menorca,
a Menorca’s town.
29. It’s about a
traditional
(celebration)
where there are
a few riders who
ride on horses,
and the people
joins with the
horses the pace
of the music.
This important event it’s celebrated in the 23rd and
24th of June every year since a lot of centuries.
30. Sant Joan is also one of the most important
parties of our town because it has some typical
games.
In one of this games a rider has to enter a special stick
in a circle called “ensortilla” while is riding on a horse.
32. This celebration
always takes place in
August and the tradition
is the following: A group
of riders with their own
horses perform the
typical “jaleo”, in which
the horses jump in the
middle of the square
while the most brave
people are brought face
to face with the horses
and help them jump
more time.
33. This “jaleo” occurs always in saturday and sunday.
There are also floats, concerts and fireworks.
When the celebration ends, the last day, helds the
horse racing.
34. THE “POMADA”
During the summer in all the
typical parties there is an element
that never fail.
We’re talking about a
typical drink of Menorca,
the “Pomada” or “Gin amb
Llimonada”. This drink is
elaborate whit gin and
lemonade.
