Its formation is usually due to the silting of a former bay by the contributions of marine and river sediments. Where tides are not very pronounced and the sand is deposited on a long tongue near the coast. There are long, narrow lagoons, separated from the sea by a narrow tongue of sand or soil parallel to the shore. In them, and due to slow water flow and exchange with the sea, temperatures are much warmer. As ecosystem are places full of life with abundant aquatic vegetation and fish fauna that comes to lay eggs and using them for many migratory birds stop in their seasonal journeys.
