Ancillary product – Album cover
– Mumford and Sons’ Babel.
This album cover from Mumford and
sons will appeal to a Folk audience with
this album cover. The audience can
relate to the band with how they dress,
what event is taking place behind them
and the poses they’re making on the
bench. The colours used in this album
are not very bright and are in ways
natural. The conventions of Folk are
reflected by this album colour well. The
randomness of what’s going on in this
album cover, will be seen by their
target audience as unique, and will
appeal to them even more. People will
look at this album cover, and
understand that it is different and
original, and this originality comes
under the genre conventions of Folk
music.
Ancillary Product – T-shirt – Of
Monsters and Men
Again like the Mumford and Sons album
cover, this t-shirt for the band Of Monsters
and Men, who can be considered a Folk
band, is original and quite random with the
face of an animal, linking to their album
name, ‘My head is an animal’. Of course it’s
colour does lend itself to the Folk genre
conventions, as it is black, which is a dark
natural colour, the other colours forming the
animal head stand out in the black
background and will again appeal to the
audience. I have talked about the clothes
that Folk fans wear, and this t-shirt doesn't
exactly come under that particular style of
clothing, as they would usually where maybe
a chequered shirt for example. However, the
design on the t-shirt and the colours will
appeal to folk fans.
Ancillary Product – Poster – Tom
Odell
This poster for Tom Odell in ways
is similar to the Mumford and
Sons CD cover. This shot of Tom is
taken in a street, and this share
the natural colours which the CD
cover has and which come under
the Folk genre convention. The
fact it says ‘Brit award winner’ on
the poster will appeal to all
audiences, as it is a big
achievement winning a Brit
award. Tom Odell is also wearing
a dark blue jacket, which again is
a colour that can come under the
Folk genre convention, as it’s dark
blue and not an unnaturally
bright neon blue.
