5. EDDIE’S STORY
Born and raised in Shettleston in the East
End of Glasgow
Pupil at Eastbank Academy in Shettleston -
Captain of the School in 1947
Director of Education, Strathclyde Region
1974-1988
Awarded a CBE for services to education
6. EDDIE’S LEGACY
Instrumental in the foundation of Glasgow College
of Technology (now Glasgow Caledonian
University) in 1971
Secured funding for the rebuilding of Eastbank
Academy in 1986
Believed passionately in the power of music and
creative arts to transform the lives of young
people
Worked tirelessly to create opportunities for
disadvantaged pupils in the East End of Glasgow
8. EASTBANK ACADEMY
Founded in 1894 – its Latin motto means “Let Your Light
Shine”
Around 900 secondary age pupils from the East End of
Glasgow - one of the most disadvantaged areas in the UK
Notable alumni include Cliff Hanley (author), Janey
Godley (comedienne), William Campbell (musician), Angus
Lennie (actor) and of course Eddie Miller
The School has a thriving Creative Arts Faculty which
urgently requires additional investment

£20,000 initial capital from the Miller family
Seeking donations and funding partners to create
a sustainable legacy in the East End of Glasgow
Foundation is registered with OSCR – gift aid
available for all donations
No administration costs – all funding directly to
the School

Music: instruments, amplifiers, software and recording
equipment
Drama: stage lighting, sound, costume, props and set
equipment
Art and design equipment
Acting, music and design workshops and shows
Individual awards for talented pupils
Economic value add from Scottish Conservatoire, Glasgow
School of Art and other institutions
