Purpose
Connecting young people (5-25) to excellence
in arts and cultural education in the community.
“The skills which children acquire through a good cultural
education, help to develop their personality, abilities and
imagination. They allow them to learn to think creatively and
critically and to express themselves fully. All of these skills are
strong influencers on wider academic attainment in schools and
help grow a child’s interest in the process of learning …”

2012)

Editor's Notes
First statement is the purpose
Second statement is the vision that drives that purpose
First slide on this theme
Focus is on SAA function of extending the range of arts and cultural enrichment activities and making them available to young people in schools and colleges
Advise not going into detail about how we promote programmes (e-PD etc.) – can be addressed if people ask about it
Second slide on this theme
Focus is on the other main function of SAA – ensuring access for all to the wider range of arts and cultural enrichment programmes - inclusion of all young people regardless of their circumstances
Want all young people to achieve the very best they can by working alongside professional artists
Chichester Community Theatre – involved young people from Chichester College in backstage, technical support – SAA underwrote start-up costs
Story Factory – multi-arts approach to inspiring children to create stories - being sponsored by SAA to maximise access by disadvantaged children
Special schools project 2016-17 – 60 children across 6 special schools – focus on dance – involves professional, inclusive, internationally renowned theatre company Stopgap Theatre Company - SAA helped to raise £15k of Arts Council funding for the project
Horsham Festival – plans to become involved in 2017, helping to connect the festival to artists in the community and to young people in schools/colleges, supporting access for the disadvantaged
The “Vic” community centre, Arundel – working with the trustees to bring in arts and cultural activities for young people in the town, and to support a £3 million bid to refurbish the community centre
Logos along the bottom are SAA partners who have already helped us to help young people keep creative.
