  • THINKING BEYOND THE OBVIOUSINTEGRATED OPEN PITCOAL MINE PLANNING WORKSHOP 27 - 28 November 2012 Global Prospectus Training Centre, 366 Pretoria Avenue, RandburgSETA Accreditation No. 2502
  • OVERVIEWEffective openpit mine planning can be challenging in today’s environment of increased demand for productivity, competition, commodity price fluctuations, rapid growth in overseas markets, equipment scarcity, and the critical shortage of skills in themining industry. This course deals with the theoretical principles and practical methodologies associated with openpit coal mine planning. Openpitmine planning is a process entailing elements of design, scheduling and evaluation. As part of the planning process a range ofissues have to be considered including sustainability, statutory requirements and community expectations, scheduling, equipmentselection, cost estimation and economic evaluation, pre-feasibility studies and risk analysis. This course will provide tools andtechniques to support effective medium to long-term decision-making, based on managing cost and risk BENEFITS OF ATTENDING• Understand the importance of data verification and validation• Elements effective of mine planning• Effectively undertake systematic open pit mine planning• Rehabilitation planning and design• Evaluate the importance of haul road design and maintenance• Employ Cost drivers in open pit planning• Describe more specialised mining techniques WHO SHOULD ATTEND• Mine planning engineers • Mining Engineers• Technical personnel • Planning Engineers• Contract estimators • Design Engineers• Mine surveyors • Rock Engineers• Engineering Geologists • Drill and Blast Engineers• Geotechnical Engineers • Mine Managers EXPERT FACILITATORSIan Hammond Consultant, SRK ConsultingIan Hammond has been involved in the mining industry for the past 17 years in the capacity of various leadership positions. Heholds a bachelor of sciences degree, a graduate diploma in civil engineering and an MBA from the University of Witwatersrand,Johannesburg, South Africa.
