2. Emperor Penguins Characteristics
Emperor penguins are the largest penguin
species you can find in the world. They are
nearly 4 feet tall and weigh up to 90 pounds.
Those are BIG penguins! Emperor penguins are
easily identified by their size and the orange
colouring on their cheeks.
3. What penguins are like?
Deep yellow ear patches on either side of the head
fade down the neck and the upper chest, while the
remainder of the head and throat is black.
Emperor penguin chicks are mostly silvery grey,
with a blackish head and a conspicuous white mask
around the eyes, cheek and throat.
Penguins have adapted to the cold: they have scaly
feathers which don’t ruffle in the wind and claw like
feet to grip on to the ice.
4. Habitats
• Penguins live on the North of the Equator
because penguins like cold places. Penguins
live in places like Antarctica. Male emperor
penguins huddle in groups of 5000 to survive
the cold, windy and harsh Antarctica winter
storms. Antarctica's temperature can go as
low as -60 degrees.
