2. What’s this all about?
Are you a fan of the Game of Thrones books? What about the TV
series? Here we take a look at its 1st step into gaming.
Game of Thrones is an episodic graphic adventure game based
on ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, a novel by George R. Martin. This 1st
episode in the series of 6 is available across PC and consoles but
let’s see how it compares to its other mediums.
3. Storyline
Firstly we found you must have some prior knowledge about the
overall scenario before you make an entry. If you don’t actually
know the role of each character, you might probably lose track
during the game.
Being a big fan of the Game of Thrones drama season, our
expectations from the game were very high. But as we moved
forward with the story, the disappointment unfortunately kept
increasing.
4. Characters
The story of 'Iron from Ice' is flooded with dozens of characters,
some of which will be introduced in later episodes. Nevertheless,
you can control only five characters across six episodes.
As soon as you start the game, you play as Gared Tuttle, a squire
to Lord Gregor Forrester who is killed along with his son, Rodrik
Forrester in the start. Other playable characters in the house
include Mira Forrester and Ethan Forrester, who are the children of
deceased Lord Gregor Forrester.
5. Gameplay
Game of Thrones supports single-player gameplay only. You are
able to move around the environment, get into conversations,
interact with objects and fight battles.
The story very much depends on your own actions, so think
ahead before making any decision. You will be presented with
choices of dialogue and although the options are interesting, the
conversations can be very lengthy and soul-draining.
6. Graphics
The visual side of the game is not very exciting. For instance, the
combat experience is ruined by repetitive attacks and moves,
while flailing animations don’t really entice you towards the
game.
Although you are free to roam around the world, it is not very
large. In addition the characters are poorly rendered and stiffly
animated, and the environments are blocky and blurry.
7. Verdict
We are on the fence about Game of Thrones, however, we
expect Telltale Games to cover it up in the coming episodes.
