2. Rock
In Rock music videos, common genre conventions
include:
Live music performances/touring
Instruments relating to the genre (e.g. guitars, drums)
Studio performances
These videos commonly represent feelings
associated with the sound of the music. For
example, for a hard rock music video, the narrative
or meaning behind the video will be more
aggressive than that of a slow, acoustic rock song.
3. Rap and Hip-hop
In Rap music videos, common genre conventions
include:
Urban settings (e.g. Streets, alleyways)
The artist rapping to the camera
These videos are either very emotionally neutral
or aggressive due to most rap and hip hop songs
being based around troubles and issues. In more
gangster related songs, there is a common use
of dancers and women.
4. Dance and Pop
In Pop music videos, common genre conventions
include:
Story or narrative (e.g. break-up, love)
Clubs or parties
Younger generations (e.g. teens, young adults)
These videos are usually very lively and
enthusiastic, which relates to the up tempo
music. The settings are usually at a club and
involve the artist at this club.
