The Press Institute of India (PII) was founded in 1963 as an independent, non-profit organization to promote high standards of journalism in India's developing democracy. Over the decades, PII has trained over 4,000 journalists from India and other Asian countries through in-house and regional workshops focusing on rural reporting, development, and women's issues. PII publishes the monthly journal Grassroots in English and Hindi to disseminate stories on human development issues, and continues publishing the quarterly Vidura on current media topics.
