â˘A non-profit consortium of 25 universities established to allow students
to study at an Indonesian university for credit towards their home degree.
â˘ACICIS arranges visas, orientation,
and placement at Indonesian
universities.
â˘Operates from a small Secretariat at
Murdoch University, Perth.
â˘Employs a full-time Australian
academic Resident Director to
manage the programs in Indonesian.

Countryâ?

4. Flexible Immersion - UGM
Gadjah Mada University (UGM), in
Yogyakarta, is one of Indonesiaâs
top universities.
ACICIS students study either
intensive language classes or
regular units from any faculty in
the university, or a mix of both.
All classes are in Indonesian.

5. Field Study - Malang
Muhammadiyah University is a private
Islamic university in Malang, East Java.
ACICIS students usually undertake
personal field research on a topic of
their own choice.
Studentsâ field research usually takes
them into small villages.
Many do this as preparation for an
honours thesis.

8. Journalism Practicum
Experience being a foreign

ACICIS offers a 6 week Journalism
Professional Practicum in Jakarta in
January/February each year.
There are 2 weeks in class then 4
weeks of work experience with a
media outlet.
No Indonesian language skills

Yogyakarta, which is located in
central Java, is a bustling town of
some 500, 000 people and the
most popular tourist destination
on Java.

âcultural heartâ or âcity of
students.â

13. Where will you live?
You can rent a house, a room in a
âhomestay,â or a room in a kos
(student hostel).
ACICIS staff provide help and
information, but students are
responsible for finding their own
accommodation.
This is not difficult as plenty of student
accommodation is available.
Accommodation options are relatively
inexpensive by Australian standards.

14. What is a Kos ?
Kos comes from the Dutch word âindekosâ
meaning boarding house.
The majority of students choose to stay in
a kos surrounded by Indonesian students,
as it gives them constant opportunities for
language practice and learning.
Price varies greatly depending on what
sort of facilities you are after (i.e. share
bathroom/own bathroom, wireless access,
air-con/fan etc). Anywhere between
Rp. 200,000 - Rp. 1.5 million/month
(~AU$28 - AU$215/month).

15. Security in Indonesia
ACICIS regards safety and security as
our first priority.
We give students accurate, up-to-
date information, but ACICIS
students are not like tourists.
They live in the community, speak
the language, have a wide network
of friends and 24 hour backup from
ACICIS staff.
