14. I wondered if you could help me with selecting a download format if its not too much of an imposition.
I guess that as the first generation recording, the wav format is arguably most “accurate”. However, I’d usually want to compress
the wav files anyway so I probably wouldn’t go with the wav version unless it was noticeably better than the DSD and/or FLAC
versions.
So my questions are
1. Am I right in assuming the FLAC and DSD versions were created directly from the original wav files?
2. What preferences/suggestions do you have about the merits of the formats in this particular case?
I’m building up quite a decent collection of DSD recordings. Only a few years ago, I wouldn’t have imagined that would be
possible. The work you’ve done in championing the format has been really significant.
Thanks and Happy New Year to you all.
Cheers

(Followed by Audience Questions)

** At this point in presentation, Cookie introduces Matty who asks her questions that a mainstream
music listener would want to know. Example “do I need to buy a whole new music collection?”. Matty
is the music curator for a widely read and well respected technology magazine called “Media
ReDefined”.

17. End of Presentation
Attendees visited the tables outside the room to listen to a playback of
Quiles & Cloud recorded earlier in the presentation.
Playback was on the new Sony Walkman using Sony headphones to monitor.
Great interest in this playback.

19. What is Provenance?
The history of a recording from multitrack to
home playback disc or download.
We recommend adopting disclosure

20. Early Adopters vs. Mainstream Consumers
Early Adopters … Have a Need
Pulling the HRA Movement
Willing to pay as much as $60 for a Stereo
Download
Price of less concern than getting more music of
quality
Willing to spend time putting together a listening
system
Demand manufacturers are knowledgeable
Mainstream Consumers … Don’t have a Need
Fear repurchasing their collections
Consumption and Convenience more important
than quality
Require simple operations and no investment of
time
Trust that they are being sold quality without
research
Debate whether there is an audible difference
