1. Welcome to the
Great South Chapter #2505
Weekly 411 January 2nd 2011
Annual Membership Renewal
Remember you have to renew your HOG chapter membership annually and it is
that time of the year. You can find the applications on the website under member
menu in public documents. Please fill out the form and return to either Jeff Flinn,
Membership Director or leave at the front desk at the dealership with a check to
Great South HOG Chapter or cash $20 per member.
2. Grillers Needed
Fellow GS HOG members!! As always grillers are needed to cook the burgers and
franks for the dealership. The weather has changed and it will be more comfortable to
cook and earn some chromed points. This is also an opportunity to meet new friends
and get acquainted with old ones and recruit new members for GS HOG. Come out and
support Great South Harley by donating 3 hours of your time any Saturday to grill hot
dogs and burgers. Let Great South Harley know especially Gene and Kevin that we
appreciate how much they support the HOG chapter. I know we all enjoy our GS HOG
discounts and having use of the HOG Pen. This opportunity is available every Saturday
from noon to 3 PM. If you can spare a few hours on Saturday please contact Tim
Summers at activities@greatsouthhog.com and let him know you are willing to help
out. Your support is greatly appreciated!
3. DINNER RIDE -- GSHD (C) – EVERY THURSDAY, AT 6:30 PM
Meet at the Hog Pen to plan and decide on a dinner destination. These are usually very
easy and short rides to a local eatery. The camaraderie is great and it is a good time for
new members to meet others in the chapter. This our most popular ride for a Thursday
night. 1-2 pigs
SAFETY TIP -- SAFETY OFFICER, Josh Mazzucco
First, let me wish everyone a Happy New Year and say that it is great to be
able to serve this chapter as your safety officer.
Now, for those that don’t put their bikes away for the winter I have some
tips for warm and safe riding from the M/C CRUISER web site.
Base Layer: This is the layer of clothing closest to your skin that keeps you
comfortable (and, ideally, wicks away moisture). There is a variety of fabrics
to choose from-wool blends, silk, silk blends and various nylon and
polypropylene materials-but there's only one rule: no cotton. Cotton can be
wonderful in the summer, but in the winter, it retains moisture and dries
slowly. Also, when choosing tops, pick one that claims to be odor resistant.
You'll thank us later.
Mid-layer: This layer provides the bulk of the warmth, retaining body heat
and letting perspiration escape. It's usually made of man-made fabric, like
fleece, which comes in different weights for varied temperature ranges.
Some of these garments even have their own windproof and/or
waterproof/breathable membranes, making them suitable for wearing off the
bike.
Outer Layer: This is where your jacket and riding pants come in. Think
textile-despite leather's superior abrasion resistance, it's usually neither
windproof nor waterproof, and thus not ideal for winter wear (unless, of
course, it has a built-in windproof and waterproof barrier).
