2) Definition of Fair-trade:
Fair trade is an organized social movement and market-based
approach to empowering developing country producers and promoting
sustainability. The movement advocates the payment of a fair price as
well an environmental standard in areas related to the production of a
wide variety of goods.
3) Fair-trade production of honey:
A lot of the product is made in South American countries like Chile
and Mexico. They have been helped by the fair-trade organisation
since 1994. Early on, COASBA’s members - families who kept bees
and produced honey on a small scale – were all part-timers. Very few
owned any land, so most had to rent a parcela (small plot) for their
hives. The farmers keep and look after the bees themselves and then
Fair Trade helps them market it to companies. COASBA has been
certified for 5 years by the Fair Trade organisation.

4) Schemes related to Fair Trade Organisation
Other organisations that try and do what Fair Trade does include
Equal Exchange, IFAT (International Fair Trade Association), The
Fairtrade Foundation, Fairtrade Mark Ireland, Association Max
Havelaar in France, Holland and Belgium and The TransFair
organisation in countries like Germany, Canada, South Africa, Italy,
Japan and the USA.
5) Should Fair Trade be used?
I think fair trade should be used globally as the producers of the
product get paid the same amount as the distributor and the exporters.
It’s good as it’s not just the companies who get money from the
consumers but the farmers who have made the product also get a share
of the money. It would help decrease the amount of poverty that
lingers around the world.
