5. *WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY OUT OF
THE BOX THINKING?
Thinking out of the box (also thinking outside the
box or thinking beyond the box) is a metaphor that
means to think differently, unconventionally, or from
a new perspective. This phrase often refers to novel
or creative thinking.
OUT OF THE BOX THINKERS ARE ALSO CALLED
CRITICAL THINKERS.
6. Three Points To Remember
1. When thinking outside the box, make sure your goals
are clear.
2. Thinking is not enough. You have to act and that will
require support.
3. To get support requires others to start thinking outside
their boxes.
7. MISCONCEPTION OF “THINKING OUT OF
THE BOX”
* Applies to large high-tech operations.
* Age, Sex & Education
* Colour or Nationality
* Only certain people are capable of thinking
outside the box.
The truth is, there are no limitations.
8. STEPS HOW YOU CAN THINK OUT OF
THE BOX?
* DAYDREAM- Daydreaming helps you to make connections and
recall information.
* Consider the worst case scenario. Fear is what holds back
creativity. When you consider the worst case scenario not only
can you plan for it, but you can also convince yourself that the
worst case scenario isn't bad enough.
* CHANGE UP YOUR ROUTINE- Get outside your comfort zone.
Doing new things, especially things you haven't planned yet.
* LEARN NEW THINGS- The more you broaden your horizons the
more connections your brain is going to be able to make.
* LEARN TO LISTEN- One way to encourage creative thinking is to
stay quiet and listen to what other people are saying.
9. Out of the box thinkers are curious.
9
They are interested in knowing all
about their topic. They look for
new and better ways to do
everything. They are not the person
who will settle for the best.
10. Out of the box thinkers
listen carefully.
10
A critical thinker, listen carefully to what others
are saying and are able to give feedback. They
are able to suspend judgment until all the facts
have been gathered and considered.
11. Out of the box
thinkers look for
evidence….
11
A critical thinker, look for evidence to
support assumptions. They examine
problems closely and are able to reject
information that is incorrect.
12. IN CLOSING
I would like to paraphrase Shakespeare: “To
think or not to think: that is the question.” You
have a choice. You can be one of the already too
many who always knows the answer, but doesn’t
know the question, or you can belong to the
group that thinks outside the box. Remember, it
does not take special people to think outside
the box, but rather, thinking outside the box
makes people special.
