- 12. GDS It grew very quickly
- 13. GDS It was already pretty complex
- 14. GDS There was another very big task ahead of us
- 15. GDS All within another fixed deadline
- 16. How would we motivate our people to deliver?
- 17. GDS It’s increasingly clear what motivates people to do good work
- 18. We had a clear purpose
- 19. We knew having autonomy was a good thing

- 21. GDS “Autonomy without transparency doesn’t work as we’d set people up to make random decisions.” @pawelbrodzinski
- 22. GDS We needed to be clear how we were going to achieve our goals
- 23. GDS We needed to be able to see how we were progressing - at all times
- 24. We knew visualising was essential

- 33. GDS The conversations were very open, and very honest
- 34. We hit the deadline!
- 35. So: what did we learn?
- 36. GDS Large teams took more effort to manage
- 37. GDS Visionary leadership was vital
- 38. GDS The conversations between the teams were the most important feature
- 39. But...
- 40. GDS Although the best architectures, requirements, and designs emerge from self-organising teams
- 41. GDS We ended the year supporting 78 applications

- 43. GDS Now we can look at the common attributes of those applications
- 44. GDS We’re now using a Publishing Platform approach
- 45. GDS On any large programme, do research early to find those common attributes
- 47. GDS So, what’s our approach to scaling agile at GDS?

- 50. GDS Not everything in GDS has scaled in the same way
- 51. GDS Our Communities of Practice have been vital
- 52. GDS We haven’t ignored scaling frameworks
- 57. People and interactions over processes and tools
