2. O Pierre-Auguste Renoir was a French painter and a
representative of the Impressionists.
He was born in the city of Limoges France, son of tailor
Leonard Renoir and Marguerite laborer. At the age of three
his family moved to Paris where he studied, for seven years
in aCatholic school. In the evenings he was attending courses
at the School of Design and Decoration.
In 1862 he enrolled in the atelier of Earl Siniol and Marc -
Charles - Gabriel Gklair . There he met Claude Monet ,
Frederic Basil and Alfred Sisley . During the same period , he
obtained the permission to copy works of other artists in the
Louvre . Two years later , Renoir began exhibiting his work ,
however, for several years he did not experience significant
recognition. During the Franco- Prussian war of 1870 , he
wandered around with a backpack on his shoulder and he
lived very poorly . In 1867 a painting titled Lise was admitted
to the Paris Salon . This period Renoir was greatly influenced
by Claude Monet , moving increasingly towards
Impressionism . 1870 to1883 is the so-called impressionistic
period of Renoir .
3. With the war of 1873 he served in the Guard of
Tarma , but the next year he fell ill and retired ,
thus returning to Paris . In Paris he was deprived
of his friends , since Monet sought refuge in
England and Basil died . In 1874 he participated
in the first exhibition of the group of
Impressionists . Having sold some of his works,
he received 1,200 francs and settled in
Montmartre . In 1876 he met a publisher , who
made him rich .
In1880s he met Alina Sarigko , his wife. In 1881
he traveled to Algeria and then to Spain and
Italy , where he came into contact with the work
of Raphael of which he was deeply affected . In
1884 , learning that Aline was expecting their
child , he returned to stay close to her and the
next year their son Pierre was born.
4. In1892 Renoir started to develop arthritis ,a disease
which tortured him until his death. His illness forced
him to diversify Renoir 's technique . Despite the
physical difficulties , he did not abandon painting. In
1893 he acquired another son, Claude . In 1907 he
moved with his family to a warmer Tho - sur - Mer
(Cagnes-sur-Mer). With the outbreak of the First
World War , the two sons joined the army and were
seriously injured . Their mother visited them , but she
was exhausted when she returned and finally died in
1915 .
In 1919 , Renoir visited the Louvre where he had the
opportunity to see his own paintings displayed along
with classics .
He died on 3rd December of the same year at the age
of 78 .
