3. Codes and conventions Central image: located on the front cover and is in the centre of the page, the image relates to the genre and appeals to the target audience. Masthead: the masthead here is the text ‘IRON MAN’ which is on the bottom of the front cover. Mastheads for DVD's are usually at the top or bottom of the front cover and are in capitals to grab the audiences attention. The masthead always relates to the movie (the title of the movie), here we see an image of a superhero who has a metal suit; relating to the masthead. Colour: the colours are mainly red, gold and dark blue. These symbolise the superiority of the superhero and links into the colour of the heroes suit. Moreover, the dark blues at the sides of the front cover allow for the superheroes image and the masthead to stand out; the colours contrast and grab the audiences attention Back cover: the back cover contains some text which gives an insight into the plot and storyline of the movie. Also, more images are used to keep the audiences attention; the reel of images is a convention of DVD covers as they show snapshots from different scenes in the movie; again giving an insight into the movies storyline.
