In this scene, Zinos and his brother, Ilias are dancing to the Greek song ‘’Manolis’’.
It is a chaotic but a happy atmosphere in the restaurant after the party. In my opinion, the
director chose this shot type in order to show the audience the general ambiance in the
restaurant. the drunk and vomiting people at the back) I think the camera movement
made the focus on Zinos and Ilias in order to make us feel like they are happy and
they don’t care about anything else than dancing at that moment.

This is when Zinos decides to hire the famous chef,Shayn. Shayn performs his talent and
turns cheap fast food into elegant dishes. Then he presents his dish and say ‘’40 Euro’’. I
believe the shot type was chosen in order to make the audience see the events in Zinos’s
perspective. Again, I think the angle was chosen for the same reason. All these techniques
give the audience a more realistic sense of a dialogue and make them feel right there in the
middle of the conversation.

In this emotional scene, Nadine leaves Germany for Shanghai. They hug for the last
time at the airport. I think the angle, the camera movement (still) and a some kind of
wide medium shot were chosen make the audience feel the intensity of the scene. The
director placed the couple in the middle of the frame and shot the scene from a slightly
low angle in order to make them look as the most significant and important figures in
the frame(and the whole airport). Therefore the main focus is absolutely on Zinos and
Nadine.

This is the scene where Ilias gets a permission to leave jail and comes to
Soul Kitchen, to ask for Zinos’s help. He asks if Zinos can sign the paper
and pretend Ilias is an employee at Soul Kitchen. I think the shot type, the
stillness and the angle of the camera were chosen in order to make the
audience feel like they are in the middle of the dialogue and to make them
feel the atmosphere. We can clearly see the whole restaurant from the angle
as if we are sitting at the table next to Zinos and Ilias.

In this scene, with Anna’s advice Zinos goes to a local Turkish man (a
man that performs traditional alternative treatments to cure problems
with bones). I think the shot type was chosen to show us the whole
room, the different and mysterious oriental atmosphere.

In this scene, Zinos,Ilias and Sokrates are in a small hotel room
after Ilias loses the restaurant to Thomas Neumann and their
house burns down. All three are very sad and simply homeless
and broke. The long wide shot was clearly chosen to make us
see the whole room in order to perceive the situation better.

This is the last part of the movie, obviously a happy ending. After Zinos wins
the restaurant back, he and Anna decide to have a special dinner at the
restaurant.. I think, Fatih Akın chose the shot type to give us an outer view of
the whole scene, to make us see how happy they are from a different
perspective.
