3. What is Global Warming?
“ Global warming is an average increase in the
temperature of the atmosphere near the Earth ’ s
surface and in the troposphere , which can contribute
to changes in global climate patterns . Global warming
can occur from a variety of causes , both natural and
human induced . In common usage , “ global warming ”
often refers to the warming that can occur as a result
of increased emissions of greenhouse gases from
human activities .” 3
4. CAUSES
As we burn fossil fuels like coal , oil and natural gas for
energy or cut down and burn forests to create pastures
and plantations , carbon accumulates and overloads our
atmosphere . Certain waste management and agricultural
practices aggravate the problem by releasing other potent
global warming gases , such as methane and nitrous oxide .

5. EFFECTS
Of course, land and ocean temperature is only one way to measure the
effects of climate change. A warming world also has the potential to
change rainfall and snow patterns, increase droughts and severe
storms, reduce lake ice cover, melt glaciers, increase sea levels, change
plant and animal behavior, forest fire, flashfloods and more. 5
6. AGENDA
SOLUTIONS
Boosting energy efficiency Phasing out fossil fuel electricity
Greening transportation Managing forests and agriculture
Revving up renewables Developing and deploying new
Ensuring sustainable low-carbon and zero-carbon
development technologies
