Look at the article taken from a popular coursebook. Match the underlined words to the correct verb forms. 
Present Simple .More people speak English.. Past Continuous have started moving 
Past Simple Was chosen Present Perfect Continuous has been building 
Present Perfect Simple is stored Present Simple Passive being invented 
Past Perfect Simple had reached Past Simple Passive been spoken 
Present Continuous is also changing 
Fill in the gaps in these rules with continuous, perfect, simple or passive. 
· We usually use .......Perfect........verb forms to talk about things that are repeated, permanent or 
completed. 
· We usually use ........continuous.........verb forms to talk about things that are in progress, temporary or 
unfinished. 
· We usually use .....continuous.......verb forms to talk about things that connect two different time 
periods (the past and the present, etc.) 
· We usually use .............passive...... verb forms when we are more interested in what happens to 
somebody or something than in who or what does the action.

(ii) Writing Task 
Please write an essay of 250 - 300 words on the topic below. You will be assessed on the following 
criteria: 
· Task achievement 
· Use, accuracy and range of grammar and vocabulary 
· Spelling and punctuation 
What do you consider to be the qualities of a good teacher and why? 
Teachers play an important role in educating children and 
teenagers and for this reason there must be good qualities for 
being a role model and a good teacher. 
A teacher should possess ample knowledge, sense of humor, 
patience, passion, confidence and empathy. A good teacher 
should have enough knowledge of the subject she is 
teaching also about the culture and the society . She 
should have full command on her subject. The teacher should 
use the latest and most useful teaching techniques, she 
should be open to the change. There should be place for 
new ideas and new methods. A good teacher should know 
that her students are visual, auditory and kinesthetic 
learners and accommodate their needs carefully . 
A good teacher should have confidence in herself and 
also should be creative, motivated and have good rapport 
with students and parents. Classroom management is 
another important factor for a good teacher. A good 
teacher should know how to maintain discipline in the class.
