-So how do we go about “The Smart City” concept?
-We participate in ‘Living Labs’ where the Smart City concepts are being developed, tested and experimented with.
-Here the stakes are about making the existing smarter, not designing and building whole new smart cities.
Add info:
-Smart cities are urban areas that are more efficient, sustainable, livable, competitive and secure by the use of new communication and information technology.
-In Smart cities, ICT and data are used to cleverly organize human activities (housing, employment, leisure) and resources (energy, water, goods).
-This leads to new concepts, markets and products that boost urban and economic development.
-The concentration of challenges in urban areas ask for an integrated approach which addresses the challenges combined to achieve the desired effectiveness.
-Not only different sectors are involved, but also various parties.
-Local governments are the first party to kick-start smart cities concept.
-But there are many stakes of national importance and therefore the national government has a role to stimulate and facilitation the development of smart cities.
-Finally, smart cities can exist without smart citizens.
-ICT and (open) data provide opportunities for an energetic society and businesses to take (more) initiative.
