THE PROBLEM OF
“SIN” AND “SINS”
“Sin” singular refers to the powerful nature of sin
within us. It’s like a tree that produces its fruit—
“sins.” It follows then that “sins” plural refer to
countless acts of sinning as the fruits of this sinful
nature within us
• Sins are related to our conduct
• Sin is related to our natural life. Sins are that
which are committed by the hands, the feet, the
heart, and even the whole body. Paul refers to
this when he speaks of the practices of the body
(Rom. 8:13).
• But what is sin? Sin is a law that controls our
members (Rom. 7:23). There is something within
us that compels us to sin, to commit evil, and this
something is sin.
7. WHAT IS SIN ?
Sin is the
transgression of a
divine command.
Sin is the denial of
the divine right to
command.
Sin is the failure to
attain to the divine
standard.
• “Abar”- To pass over . IT
signifies the breaking of a known
command, going beyond
assigned limits.
Gen 3, Gen 14 :13
• “Pasha”-To break away from
representing lawlessness or
spiritual anarchy.
1 Timothy 1:9
• “Chata”- To miss the mark or
coming short of the glory of
God. IT signifies deviation from
the divine will.
