Cricket as a sport has roots from England colloquially called as The Great Britain. They hold a pride of
introducing a sport that’s touched more than a billion hearts across the globe. In other terms Cricket is
the only sport standing third next only to FIFA and Summer Olympics has more audience than any
other sporting events, perhaps London might be pride of its colonial styled Cricketing grounds at the
Lords & the Oval but, Aussies changed the game in building the largest, technologically advanced and
the most acknowledged cricket stadium in the World, The Melbourne Cricket Ground, affectionately
also known as The MCG amongst the Australians.
Being the largest amongst the cricket stadiums and thirteenth largest overall of any sporting grounds in
the world, The MCG has a rich history that dates back to 1854, when it was built and has been
remember as a centerpiece of 1956 Summer Olympics, 2006 Commonwealth Games and 1992
Cricket World Cup. It has been pride of Australia since many decades for hosting annual Boxing Day
test match on 26th December and throughout winter it serves as the home ground for Australia Rules
Football matches.
With a capacity of over hundred thousand and field size of 173.6 m x 148 m, The MCG truly a
masterpiece. Strategically located closer to the Melbourne Central Business District (CBD) at the
nearest stations of Richmond and Jolimont is easy to access from any part of Melbourne. The stadium
is widely acknowledged amongst the cricketing pundits as they call it “The Cricket Heartland” or “The
G”.
Owned by The Victorian Government and Operated by Melbourne Cricket Club has been a

totaling more than 100,000 audiences.
