TeamBath is the collective name for the family of sports-related activities
taking place at the University of Bath. The scope of sports at the
University ranges from learn to play through to Olympic champions. The
hub of sports at the University is the £30 million Sports Training Village,
which is counts a 50m swimming pool, 400m running track, indoor
running straight, judo dojo, eight-court indoor tennis complex, outdoor
beach volleyball courts and fully equipped fitness suite among its state-of-
the-art facilities.
Beach volleyball is one of TeamBath’s focus sports. The University¹s
campus hosts the British Beach Volleyball programme and the England
Development Beach Volleyball programme, and is helping British athletes
to prepare for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Many of the athletes
combine training with studying for a degree at the University of Bath, one
of the UK¹s leading universities and ranked ninth in The Guardian Good
University Guide 2010.
Beach volleyball will be showcased at Sandbanks 2010 for the first time.
Two teams of men¹s players, who have featured for Great Britain at
various levels, will battle it out for the inaugural TeamBath-Oakley title.
The second court will see a mixed team challenge, and another
opportunity to witness the thrills and spills of one of the coolest sports to
feature on the Olympic programme.
Oakley supports TeamBath by sponsoring its athlete of the month awards.
Awards winners have included Amy Williams, winner of the skeleton
gold medal at Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, who trains at the
University of Bath, as well as British beach volleyball player Lucy Boulton
and world record breaking Paralympics swimmer Liz Johnson.
