Colleague or Detractor
“The last thing you want is to blow up your work!”
In every firm or establishments, it is unavoidable to have difficult people to work with.
White collared or blue collared jobs are different, but there is one thing that is in common
with the two. Both of them have co-workers. With that, we may experience difficulties. All
people have different personalities, and as the saying goes, “we cannot please everybody”.
Actually, we can associate personalities with different kinds of shapes. We do have natural
tendencies that we can relate in one or two shapes, because we are a multi-dimensional people.
For instance, triangle people, this one where the aimers. They want to aim as high as the stars,
reaching for more and always keep an eye on what’s next. Then, the circle people, who just want
to have peace and harmony, they want everyone to get along. And the squares, they are typically
the process and organize people. A very linear and systematic person. Then the last shape, a free
form or a squiggle line, a member of the organization that cannot be contained by boundaries, the
free thinkers and creative force within the group.
Furthermore, as the personalities being defined, we may relate it with the co-workers
whom have different types in a negative way. First one is the chatter box, this type of person
only wants to talk and talk all the time regarding her interests or wants. He/she doesn’t care
about the time being consumed. Second one, the gossiper, the difference between this one from
the first one is that this person is funded in talking about the life of other people, even if his own
co-worker when it is not around. Third, the complainant, this one creates the conflicts most of
the time. He keeps on complaining about the damages, even in small problems, but doesn’t
suggest any solutions. Fourth one, the delegator, a person who always wants to volunteer herself
to the public, a very conceited man. The last one is the toughest person to deal with, the credit
grabber, these claims all the good thing happens when a project has been successfully done. He
doesn’t give any credits to his teammates, but only his own self.
Co-workers are one of the factors that we consider at work. Most of the time, we vary our
actions to them. The best thing to do is to listen at what other tells you or say, then after that,
forget what have you heard. Don’t ever try to tell it to others. Work is work, one of the attitudes
a professional person must have. Never be afraid of having friends at work. But, learn how to
choose trust worthy person. Adjustment is a must, every day we communicate with another
person, different kinds of personalities, by knowing how to interact with them you may avoid
conflicts. Remember to use heart in all your assigned tasks, but use your mind in all the actions
that you may take. You will not be affected by these people when you have self-esteem, self-
confidence and professional courage.
