DISCUSSION · A TLC analysis was performed on the isolated reaction product. What evidence did this provide with regard to reaction success? A bromine test was performed. What evidence did this provide with regard to reaction success? Solution TLC If we compare the polarity of cyclohexene and cyclohexanol, cyclohexanol is more polar than cyclohexene. So cyclohexanol will less move as compare to cyclohexene or cyclohexanol have less Rf and cyclohexene have more Rf. While co- spot have both compound so it has both spot. For successful Reaction, In Tlc plate we should have single spot which corresponde to product ( cyclohexene) meaning neither reactant left nor any side product formed. In Tlc plate, if we have single spot corresponding to cyclohexene and no spot in corresponding to cyclohexenone in our product that mean our reaction is complete. Chemical test After swirl if we colorless content in test tube that our product ( cyclohexene) formed while if yellow color of bromine conserves that indicate Reaction is incompleted and we have reactant ( cyclohexanol) left. .
