Join with members of the Lay Ministry
Program of the Diocese of Covington in a
reflection program for people serving with
and advocating on behalf of low-income
members of our community.
An Experiential Retreat with Fr. Fred Kammer, S.J., author of
Doing Faithjustice: An introduction to Catholic Social Thought
This weekend is for those of us
involved in trying to do the everyday
work of 'faithjustice' and concerned
about the realities facing the poor and
disenfranchised in our communities.
This retreat is an opportunity to
investigate and reflect together on our
experiences of this work at this
moment in light of Biblical faith.
Friday, January 28. We will start
together by eating lunch at the Parish
Kitchen in Covington. Later sociolo-
gist Jerome Wltschger will lead the
group through a process to consider
the combination of life events and
social forces confronting many inner-
city, low-income people today.
Saturday, January 29. Fr. Fred
Kammer, S.J. will lead large group
presentations with small group dis-
cussions of the Biblical roots of
standing with the poor and moving
from charity to justice.
Fred Kammer is an attorney, a
Jesuit priest, an advocate for the poor
and powerless and President of
Catholic Charities USA. He wrote the
book Doim) Faithiustice (Paulist Press,
1991) while a Visiting Fellow at
Woodstock Theological Center at
Georgetown University.
Formerly he served as the policy
advisor for health and welfare issues
at the United States Catholic
Conference. Also a former legal ser-
vices attorney and Catholic Charities
director, he received his J.D. from
Yale University and M. Div. from
Loyola University in Chicago.
This workshop arises from the
mission of Catholic Social Services as
a part of the Catholic Charities
movement and an embodiment of
Church, called to the social mission of
Jesus Christ. 'A Social Spirituality' is
a program of the Organizing Dept.
