Eastern Michigan University provides complimentary Web site hosting services, on a limited basis, for
local community and professional organizations that meet the following criteria. Eligible groups must:
• Have a mission that supports the principles embodied in the EMU mission: excellence, the advancement of
knowledge and creative expression, personal and professional growth, community engagement, and an inclusive
regard for all persons.
• Have certified NPO (non-profit organization) status, or be able to demonstrate that they operate as an NPO.
• Have a preexisting association in good standing with EMU (may be waived by the EMU Director of Web
Communications for good cause).
• Designate an active webmaster or Web administrator for their site with the skills necessary to use SFTP (and
SSH as needed), and to update and maintain the files on the organization’s Web site.
• Submit a brief prospectus for their site, listing the purposes and proposed content for the site.
• By signing this form, agree to adhere to applicable EMU policies, including but not limited to acceptable use,
privacy, security, Web design and site content/maintenance.
• By signing this form, certify that the organization’s Web site will not undertake or host any online commercial
activity, including but not limited to merchandise sales or promotion, paid or in-kind advertising, fund raising
and paid event registration. Dot-com sites and domains are also prohibited on or in association with EMU
servers and site hosting.
• Sign and adhere to the standards and responsibilities of the EMU Web Directory Access Agreement form (com-
munity/professional organization version).
A final determination of each organization’s eligibility for Web site hosting will be made by the EMU Director of
Web Communications.

Web Site and Server Community/professional organizations seeking Web site hosting on EMU
Regulations Web servers must agree to all of the following conditions, and must desig-
nate 1) a webmaster and 2) a site administrator who is/are authorized to
accept and carry out the responsibilities detailed in this document. If this webmaster/administrator leave/s
the organization or discontinues her/his/their association with the organization’s Web site, the director or
president of the organization must immediately assign a new webmaster/administrator, and complete both
a new Community/Professional Web Hosting Agreement and a new Directory Access Agreement.
(Note: The webmaster and site administrator may be one person or two different people. The person designated as webmas-
ter must be responsible for the site itself—the design, content, structure, etc. The person designated as site administrator
must be available during standard business hours and must be familiar with the site’s content, authorized to make deci-
sions regarding the site, and available to respond promptly to the site’s standard e-mail contact address and phone num-
ber.) As the applicant, you agree to:
1. Bear all responsibility for any costs you may incur for site maintenance and development. All sites must meet
minimum standards of professionalism in design and presentation.
2. Keep your site self-contained, that is, design and structure the site so that it does not require exceptional tech-
nological services from EMU, such as database or programming access. Your directory account will include stan-
dard web technologies (HTML and PHP access) only. No development tools or software will be included. (Note:
The Director of Web Communications will consider specific requests for additional technological services on an individual
basis, relative to current resources and support readily available without interference to EMU’s primary enterprise.)
3. Include and maintain on the front (home) page of your Web site an active e-mail contact address (preferably
a link) and phone number where you/your organization can be reached.
4. Include and maintain on the front (home) page of your Web site the following disclaimer: “This site is hosted
on an Eastern Michigan University server, but is not an official EMU web site. The material on this site is not officially
approved, licensed, sponsored or endorsed by Eastern Michigan University. The University assumes no express or implied
responsibility for any component of this site, including content, presentation, usability, accessibility, accuracy or timeliness,

                                                                                                                       continued

nor of any links directed from this site. For information about this web site, please contact [a representative of the group or
organization].” (Note: EMU reserves the right to change the specific wording of this disclaimer at any time. You
agree to publish the current version of this disclaimer on your home page whenever you are notified of any
alterations to the disclaimer.)
5. Not use any trademarked, registered or copyrighted images belonging to EMU, including logos, signatures
and word marks.
6. Not design or structure your site in a way that creates a similar appearance to the official EMU design (the
“look and feel” of the site). Your site is an independent site, hosted on the EMU servers.
7. Be aware that your site will be reevaluated for EMU server hosting eligibility on an annual basis. The EMU
Director of Web Communications will review and approve all hosted sites prior to launch, and will conduct (or
direct) the annual site reevaluations.
The agreement that EMU provides to host community/professional organization Web sites does not
comprise a contract, either express or implied. EMU reserves the right to terminate, suspend or limit
community/professional organization site hosting for any reason, with or without notice. EMU will
make a good faith attempt to provide reasonable notice for any change in hosting privileges.
