1. The US Supreme Court has upheld a ban by President Donal
Trump to the US from seven countries
Pros Cons
The President directed the
suspension of admission of
certain persons from specific
countries was limited to a 90-day
period to allow government
agencies to ensure their vetting
& approval processes are
thorough and complete.
The ban completely suspends
the United States' Syrian
refugee program due to the
ongoing conflict and the inability
to vet persons from that nation.
It is not a ban based on religion
alone. Muslims who are living in
other countries may still be
admitted under the statutes and
regulations prior to the ban.
It does not bar “Green card
holders” from re-entering the
U.S. and exempts certain visa
categories like diplomatic visa
holders and medical treatment
visas.
It reduces the cap on the total
number of refugees allowed to
enter the US in 2017 from
110,000 to just 50,000.
Foreign citizens wishing to
immigrate to the U.S. have
no substantive due
process rights to enter the U.S.
nor is there any explicit or
implied “right” to immigrate.
We are a nation of immigrants
and choking off immigration is
wrong.
It’s unconstitutional for the
President to halt immigration.
The President has exceeded his
authority.
The ban violates the Immigration
and Nationality Act of
1965 which prohibits
discrimination against
immigrants on the basis of
national origin.
It’s violates of separation of
powers because Congress
makes immigration law.
It’s evidence that Trump is a
racist, xenophobic, fascist bully.
