1. MEMO REPORT
To: Head of senior management Stitch Wear
From: Louis de Vos (Head of PR)
Date: 20 October 2011
Subject: Improvement of the company’s public image concerning our CSR
Introduction:
In order to improve our CSR to fight against the actual struggles we have with the
Worldwide Labor Association (WLA) and the media, concerning the accusation of child
labor, we held this meeting to provide you with eventual solutions for this concern. In
this meeting all departments teamed up in order to seek possibilities for fixing the lack
of positive public responseto come through the actual crisis. Of course we tried to not
underestimate eventual costs and sought viable and rather cheap solutions, which also
should appeal to our stakeholders.
Supervision of the overseas production processes.
Firstly, we sought a way of how we can implement our code of conduct into our overseas
production processes, which are obviously the root of the problem. Therefore, we
thought about the implementation of supervisors, who act less as a controller, but rather
as an information exchanger. Thus, we will economize money by not directly run the
production by ourselves, but only have supervisors in the key positions, who can
provide us with important information about the current status.
Provision of social sponsorships.
Secondly, we discussed about to set up a series of social sponsorships for instance,
educational training or health programs. By doing this, we expect more costs, but we are
also convinced that this action will improve the working conditions and employee
satisfaction, hence, will further our attempts to improve the public image, especially
towards the WLA. Therefore, and referring to the actual problem, we want to advise you
to set up a health program for all employees, especially since the whole issue stands in
1
2. the public focus. Additionally, we should provide an educational and technical training
for former child employees, in order to support them.
Set up a sustainable supply chain.
Another very important point referring to the current crisis, are our suppliers. Since we
support our employees, we should also take in account our supply chain. In order to
improve our CSR, we should show an overall alteration within our company. Therefore
we advise you to screen eventual suppliers for unmoral behavior or child exploitation,
before take them on board. In addition to that, we propose an outsourcing of this
concern to the ETI, the Ethical Trading Initiative. Since they have a good reputation and
a wide network, we think this partnership will be beneficial.
Establishing a new Slogan.
Finally, we think about an overworked slogan followed by a new marketing campaign,
which should shift Stich Wear’s public image in a more favorable one. Details about
suggestions of new brand signs and slogans will follow after you received the results of
this meeting and send us a brief feedback.
Conclusion:
We hope we could provide you with helpful suggestions and convince the board, in
order to improve our CSR profile. If there are any remarks or questions concerning this
subject, we would like to hear them.
We look forward to your reaction and we hope for a fast and successful handling of this
concern.
