Lighthouse won "crowd favorite" and 1st place at Startup Weekend EDU Seattle 2014.
Our pitch can be seen on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3AjWjaf_Qo
Our purpose is to keep children safe at school. Lighthouse is a smart solution for special needs teachers and students. It provides confidence that they’re with the right people and alerts you when they’re not.
A device is attached to a student which uniquely identifies them to the teacher. The teacher then uses the lighthouse app to keep track of their students and alert them when there’s a problem.
Lighthouse is tailored for students with special needs, a market currently underserved and in need of a solution like Lighthouse.

11. “I LOVE this idea. My school has had issues with students who are known to be ‘runners’ or ‘escape artists.’ My administration still needs to put a protocol in place that would actually make a difference.”
~ Barbara P., Elementary school speech pathologist
“I want this. Special needs students are pulled out my class frequently throughout the day. I think it would be a good idea for a teacher to be more aware of their students whereabouts.”
~ Nicole P., Elementary school special education teacher

•Limited range: <210m ~2 year battery life
•Costs between $5-50
•Sense proximity with newer smartphones and as well as other iBeacons(only certain devices)
18. Privacy Concerns
•iBeaconsutilize Bluetooth Low Energy, a positional tracker that doesn't transmit location or connect to the internet.
•They will be distributed at school and only used on school grounds. iBeaconswill not follow students home.
•Users who are able to connect to iBeaconswill only see a jumble of metadata, and not actual student information.
